DEFINITION OF SIWES

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The content of this lengthy knowledgeable and advocating work is a technical report on students industrial work experience (SIWES) a very important scheme, that prepares most of technical student scheme to face the challenges before them after the completion of their various program or and also help them to gain the practical background knowledge of what they have been thought theatrically at school.
1.1  DEFINITION OF SIWES
SIWES can be defined as the skill training programme which forms part of the approved minimum academic standard in various degree programmes for Nigeria Universities, polytechnics, sand colleges of education (tertiary institution). It also helps to bridge the gap existing between theory and practical engineering and technology science agriculture medical management and other professional education program in the Nigerian tertiary institutions.
1.1  OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
The objective of SIWES among others include:-
1.      To provide avenue for student from institution of higher learning to acquaire industrial skills and experience in their approved cause of study.
2.      It also prepare student for the industrial work situation which are likely to meet after graduation.

1.2  BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PLACE OF ATTACHEMENT
Ministry of works and Transport Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State was established since the creation of birnin kebbi, the organization operates multi activities on works and transport for the purpose of improvement.
Today the organization has many department such as Department of Building, electrical, Architects, mechanical, structures and Quantity Survey enable it carry out its function in a series of manner.

CHAPTER TWO
2.0 SITE CLEARANCE
Site clearance is the important part of construction it’s the process of preparing the site by removing the hazard substances and it also remove the top soil to a maximum of 150mm.
2.1 SETTING OUT        \
After the site clearance, the next stage was setting out where by the builder in charge of the site is to interprets the architectural plan. We use 3,4,5 method of setting out and in that method the reference point was established and peg was fasten in the reference point and nailed (named peg A) from peg a and measured to peg B, the same thing done to BC and from C to D the distance of all measurement was 9m a setback of 3m was done from the road side after establishing four corners of the building, A to C (i.e diagram), that the rooms where marked out within the area according to the plan tools used during setting out:
1.      Pegs
2.      Profile
3.      Builders square
4.      Hammer
2.2 EXCAVATION
Excavation refers to digging of the foundation so as to receive the foundation type. And we have two method of excavation manual and mechanical.
Manually is done by the use of hand tools.
Mechanically is done by the use of machinery.

During our SIWES we use manual method with the use of hand tools such as shovel, pick axes, hoes, and wheel barrow, were used to excavate the trench which has the depth and width 1mx for the workers.
2.3 LEVELING AND COMPACTING
Having completed the trench excavation, rammer was used to level and compact the trench base in order to provide a uniformly leveled based for blinding and foundation work.
2.4 BLOCK WORK
225mm hollow 5 and crete block were used for the walls and we used stretcher bounding in the construction of the walls in the site.
2.5 FORM WORK ON COLUMNS
The form work was done for the colloum (pillar) and we normally used the metal for the form work. And it was casting with concrete.
FORM WORK ON SLAB
Form work was provided to from the slab in which was braise 150mm by 170mm, wood was used is braises 48mm by 72mm plywood was use to form work of the slab.
REINFORCEMENT SLAB
Arranging of reinforcement an slap.
12mm reinforcement was laid in the slab we then have concrete space which ratio is 20mm therefore use site 1 witness Bi were used as concrete space due to the economic problem.

CHAPTER FOUR
4.0 SUMMARY
In the four months of my SIWES of Ministry of Works and Transport Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State as being of interesting productive and instructive experience in my life.
As a student of Building Technology, I was involved in work related to construction most of my training time were focusing was an (Block Work, Concrete, Form work and slap) in overall, I am quite satisfied with the Block Work effort making the program smoothly and successfully.
4.1 CONCLUSION
With the above report we can conclude that SIWES is very important because it gives the student opportunity to know more about the practical’s in construction field
It also exposes the student to working condition so that he/she will be aware of all the rule and regulation in the working environment.
This report will serve as reference to all student who wish to undergo the same construction course.
RECOMMENDATION
Finally I have to recommend good og Birnin Kebbi Local Government and Supervisors for academic knowledge, skill and understanding therendred to me throughout of my program.
I pray and wish them at the same time and to my entire Department Lecturers.
