CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
I have
undergone my industrial attachment training program. At the Kebbi Urban
Development Authority Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. This training project started
from 23 October, 2017.to 12 February, 2018. As a student of building technology
department, that deals with constructions work. And I undergo my industrial
training at town planning department in (KUDA).
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PLACE
WERE I ATTACHED TO
HISTORY OF KEBBI URBAN
DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (KUDA)
Kebbi Urban Development Authority
popularly known as (KUDA) came to being shortly after the historic birth of
Kebbi State a new political entity carved out of the former Sokoto state on 27th
August. 1991, to form one of the mine- additional new states created by the
present military administration of general Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Consequent to the deployment of
civil servants who were indigenes of Kebbi State, from the defunct Sokoto
state, the pioneer administration in the new state headed by colonel Patrick
Aziza sprung into action, leading to the establishment of various ministries,
Parastatals and boards thereby enhancing the immediate take-off of the new
administration.
Among
the early governmental organizations that have emerged was Kebbi state Urban
Development Authority, autonomous Parastatals under the ministry of works and
housing.
By designation, the authority is
responsible for controlling and regulating the provision of utilities,
facilities and services including infrastructural development control within
the state capital Birnin Kebbi and three other Urban centers namely; Argungu,
Yauri, and Zuru. In each of the centre, the Authority has operational jurisdiction
extending to sixteen (16) kilometer radius.
KUDA is headed by a general manager
who is ably assisted by a secretary and heads of departments of the various
units through which the Authority operates. Among these unit are,
administration, town planning, electrical, health, finance, civil engineering
and mechanical.
This modern edition of focus on
Kebbi Urban Development Authority is enlightenment. Publication design to
portry the image of this vital organization and to publicize its various activities
and the nature of its services generally, for the public to understand and
appreciate.
CHAPTER TWO
SETTING OUT
This is the transfer of information
on the building drawing to the ground with high degree of accuracy. When the
site clearance is completed the setting out of the work may being. It is
necessary to have a good knowledge of geometry in order to ensure accurate
work. The first task in setting out a building is to establish a base line from
which the whole of the building can be set out. The position of this line must
be marks on site so that it can be re-established at any time.
EQUIPMENT SETTING OUT
Measuring
Tape: - before setting out any work the tape would be carefully checked for
accuracy.
2.
Profiles: When setting out a building, it is an advantage if the line can be
secured so that they are well clear of the building line.
3. Datum Peg:- Before starting the actual
setting out of the building. It is essential to establish a level to the site
to which reference pertaining in the level of elements of work may be made in
the course of executing the work.
ITEMS REQUIRED IN SETTING OUT
1- Timber,
75mm by 50mm or any appropriate size
2- Nylon
threads (Manila rope).
3- Ordinary
nails inch and 2 inch.
4- Round
poles to act as pegs or steel for hard chalk or line
5- White
chalk or line
6- Panga/machete
7- Clear
hose pipe for determining horizontal levels.
8- Sledge
hammer.
METHOD
OF SETTING OUT
1. 3, 4, 5 methods
2. The builder square
3. Theodolite method
THE 3,
4, 5 METHOD
1. Mark out the building line
from the main road by measuring the require distance from the center of the
road or by stretching a line along an existing building to the proposed site.
The building line can be represented by a line know as the ranging clines,
which also mark the wall of the building.
2. Mark out the overall
length of the building by driving pegs at AB along the ranging line
3. Produce two steel tapes
measured and mark out four equal distance on the ranging line starting from the
corner peg at B (4m).
4. Pull a tape measure from
the B to C and ask assistance to hold it ready with a chamber and peg.
5. Pull second tape from the
mark at D on the raining line to point on first tape.
6. The distance 5m on the DE
should coincide with point 3m to tape BEC to prove that the angle B is 900
(from Pythagoras theorem).
7. Repeat the same procedure
to obtain the right angle from BAF, and mark out the overall width of the
building.
8. Establish corner pegs and
erect profiles.
9. Mark the position or
partition walls on the profile with either nails or saw cuts. Ranging lines are
stretched through these nails and the corner peg to establish the ground to
indicate the line of excavation for the foundation trenches.
EXCAVATION:
Is the
removal of contained material or hazardous waste from site using heavy
construction equipment or manual tools
2.2.1
factor to be considerate in site excavation
1. Nature of subsoil effect
type of machine used the necessity of soil protection
.
METHOD OF EXCAVATION
This is done after the setting out and making out.
Excavation can be using two methods.
1.
Manual method
2.
Mechanical method
TOOLS USED IN MANUAL EXCAVATION
i.
Pick-axis: used for dig up
the soil
ii.
Shovel: used to remove the
dug up soil.
iii.
Spades- to level the bottom
of the excavation and to load into the wheel barrow.
Wheel barrows and head pan to
convey the excavation area.
EQUIPMENT USED IN MECHANICAL EXCAVATION
1-
Back acter
2-
Mechanical auger
3-
Dump truck
4-
Tipper truck
CONCRETE
Concrete:- A composite
material which consist of element sand, water and aggregate which has been
mixed together, placed, consolidated and allow to solidity and hardened.
FUNCTION
OF CONCRETE
1-
Durability
2-
Strength
3-
Ability to resist load
4-
Bind two solid brick together

CHAPTER THREE
PROBLEMS
FACE DURING SIWES
Secondly
we encounter the problems of much theory than practical In the training process
which supposed to be more practical activities on site due to the insistence of
our KUDA base supervisor to be coming to the ministry instead of going to the
site.
CHAPTER FOUR
CONCLUSION
Conclusion:- I will like to appreciate the student
training work experience scheme (SIWES) for the opportunity given to me to put
this theory in practical aspect or experience in the end of my study and I m
not done any practical aspect in that KUDA.
RECOMMENDATION
I hereby recommended that student that are ND One (1)
don’t even try to go Kebbi Urban Development Authority to do our SIWES. Because
they don’t tech you anything consigned building.
